After recovering from the accident, Maya was still confined to her hospital bed, which, she decided, was now her least favorite place in the world. Days seemed endless, filled with nothing but bland hospital food and the faint beeping of machines. She was restless, itching to get back to her old routine, yet bound to that uncomfortable bed with a leg casted and her movements limited.

Her friend Fatima popped in one afternoon, carrying a bag of snacks and fruits. "Look at you—stuck here, contemplating the grand mysteries of life and bed sores," she teased, handing Maya a pack of chips.

Maya groaned. "I’d rather be anywhere else. I can’t take another minute of just lying here with nothing but my senses on overdrive."
