After
recovering from the accident, Maya was still confined to her hospital bed,
which, she decided, was now her least favorite place in the world. Days seemed
endless, filled with nothing but bland hospital food and the faint beeping of
machines. She was restless, itching to get back to her old routine, yet bound
to that uncomfortable bed with a leg casted and her movements limited.
Her
friend Fatima popped in one afternoon, carrying a bag of snacks and fruits.
"Look at you—stuck here, contemplating the grand mysteries of life and bed
sores," she teased, handing Maya a pack of chips.
Maya
groaned. "I’d rather be anywhere else. I can’t take another minute of just
lying here with nothing but my senses on overdrive."
